Giving Tuesday 2020

Here are some of the charities that we are supporting this year. As you are planning your charitable giving to close out 2020, I hope you will consider these worthy causes.

My son is a 3rd grader at Soundview School - a non-profit, independent International Baccalaureate school. Finn has been a Soundview student since pre-kindergarten. Soundview is like family to us. They have provided an educational experience that caters to our whole child - academically & emotionally.

I can't describe how challenging it was when schools were closed due to COVID-19. No young student is equipped for the challenges of remote learning and, as a parent, I struggled too. Soundview answered the challenge and provided an incredibly supportive Virtual School option for their students.

Recently, we had the opportunity to have Finn go back into the classroom and Soundview has provided a safe and comfortable transition back to in-person learning for the families who choose that path while still providing a full Virtual School option for families who need it.

All of this required an incredible mobilization of resources including staffing, technology, facilities and cleaning. Now, the school has undertaken an ambitious campaign to raise funds to continue to support students virtually and in-person through the remainder of the COVID crisis.

Your gift to Soundview School will help support an amazing community of educators and families.

The Pike Place Market Foundation is a cause close to my heart since my studio is a part of the amazing community of businesses, artists, farmers and residents of Pike Place Market.

The Pike Place Market Foundation supports the Pike Place Market community through things like low-income housing, health care, access to healthy food, high-quality preschool and a senior center.

Throughout the COVID crisis they have supported the community in a variety of ways. The food bank is collecting groceries for shoppers and providing delivery services. Neighborcare Health continues to provide medical care and a pharmacy. And, the Senior Center has provided 2 meals per day on a take-out basis. Your support of the Pike Place Market Foundation will help ensure that they can continue to provide this vital support to the businesses and residents who call the market home.

Ventures is a non-profit providing access to business training, capital, coaching and hands-on learning opportunities for entrepreneurs with limited resources and unlimited potential. They have a retail store in Pike Place Market that gives new businesses an opportunity to bring their products to market.

Access to training, capital and coaching are so important for makers and entrepreneurs who are trying to get their businesses off the ground. This is particularly true for women and people of color.

Your support of Ventures will help ensure that they can continue to help these small businesses get and maintain a solid start. This is especially important now as small businesses struggle to stay afloat due to the economic impacts of COVID-19.

Through their Chefs for America initiative, World Central Kitchen is working across America to safely distribute individually packaged, fresh meals in communities that need support – for children and families to pick up and take home, as well as delivery to seniors who cannot venture outside. To date, WCK has provided over 30 million meals in more than 400 cities.

Traditional safety nets like school feeding programs, city services, and food banks are struggling to meet basic needs. Seniors, who are isolated for their safety, are unable to access meal services. Meanwhile, the country’s hospital workers are more stretched than ever before.

Your donation can help support this vital program for Americans facing food insecurity due to COVID-19.
